The Vibe
Shetkarī is not a place you stumble upon. It sits on MH-09 Road in Thane — a busy stretch with no particular charm — but the moment you walk in and see packed tables of office workers, you know you're in the right place. No mood lighting, no playlists. Just proper Maharashtrian food, served fast, at a price that makes you feel slightly guilty.
🗺️ How to Reach
Take the Central Line to Thane Station. Exit from the east side (Platform 1). Take an auto-rickshaw towards MH-09 Road — tell the driver 'Shetkari Hotel MH-09'. Ride takes 10–15 minutes, costs ₹40–60.
From the Eastern Express Highway take the Thane exit, head towards Majiwada, then follow signs to MH-09 / Nashik Highway. The restaurant is visible from the road by the lunch crowd outside.
🍽️ What to Eat
The main event. Unlimited bhakri, steamed rice, thick slow-cooked mutton curry, 5 rotating sabzis, sol kadhi, papad, pickle, and dessert. The mutton curry is dark, deeply spiced, and coats every bite of bhakri perfectly. This is the only thing you need to order.
Made fresh — pink, chilled, perfectly balanced coconut milk and kokum. They don't auto-offer refills, but ask and they'll bring a second glass. Drink between bites to cool the spice.
Thick jowar bhakri, slightly charred at the edges. Say 'bhakri ek aur' and they'll bring more without blinking. Most visitors don't realise the thali is truly unlimited — not just the sabzis.
📝 The Full Experience
I first heard about Shetkarī from a commenter who said it was 'the last honest thali in Thane.' Big claim. I went on a Tuesday at 12:15pm — already half full.
The thali arrives in five minutes. Everything on a large steel plate: bhakri, rice, mutton curry in a separate bowl, four rotating sabzis, sol kadhi in a steel glass, papad. The first bite of mutton stopped me mid-sentence. Thick, dark, slow-cooked — the kind of curry that tastes like it's been going since morning. Which it probably has.
I ordered a second serving. Then a third bhakri. At ₹220 for unlimited mutton in 2026, I genuinely felt like I was taking from them. The reel got 5,600+ views not because I hyped it — the food did all the talking.
💡 Pro Tips
- Arrive by 12:15pm — the best mutton cuts are served first
- Ask specifically for a sol kadhi refill — not offered automatically
- Weekday lunch is less crowded than Saturdays
- Say 'bhakri ek aur' loudly — servers move fast
- Cash only — carry ₹300 to be safe
