The Vibe
Third Wave's Runwal Greens outlet is clean, minimal, and well-lit — the kind of café that takes its coffee seriously without being pretentious about it. The staff know their beans, the music stays at conversation volume, and the seating is comfortable enough to stay for two hours. A rare thing in the suburbs.
🗺️ How to Reach
Take the Central Line to Mulund Station. Exit west. Take an auto-rickshaw to Runwal Greens — tell the driver 'Runwal Greens mall entrance'. Costs ₹30–40, about 5 minutes.
From the Eastern Express Highway, take the Mulund exit and head west. Runwal Greens is a large, well-marked complex with its own parking. Easy to find.
🍽️ What to Eat
Steeped 18–24 hours with single-origin beans. Smooth, low-acid, strong without being bitter. Served over ice in a tall glass. If you've only ever had instant coffee, this will recalibrate your understanding of what coffee can be.
Single-origin coffee brewed to order. The barista weighs the grounds, controls water temperature, and pours in slow stages. Takes 5 minutes. Worth every second. Ask what bean they're pouring that day — they enjoy the conversation.
Good espresso base, properly steamed milk, and a light hazelnut flavour that doesn't overpower the coffee. Well-balanced and approachable for those who want familiar with a specialty edge.
📝 The Full Experience
Specialty coffee has been moving into Mumbai's suburbs for a few years now. Third Wave's Mulund outpost is one of the better executions outside Bandra or South Mumbai.
I went on a Tuesday afternoon and ordered both the cold brew and a pour over to compare. The cold brew was genuinely exceptional — smooth, complex, and strong with zero bitterness. The pour over arrived at exactly the right temperature with clear tasting notes (a washed Ethiopian — bright, citrus-forward, the barista noted).
The space is comfortable. Good acoustics, soft lighting, seats that don't hurt your back after an hour. For Mulund residents, this is the closest specialty café experience without the commute.
💡 Pro Tips
- Ask the barista what single-origin they're featuring that week
- Cold brew is made in small batches — occasionally sold out by evening
- Good for work sessions — stable WiFi, plenty of outlets
- Pair the pour over with their banana bread for a proper café breakfast
- Prices are premium for Mulund but justified — this is not CCD quality
